Former Executive Director of the Bronx Council on the Arts and an acknowledged cultural activist with a strong commitment to community engagement.May 27th, 2015 the New York City Council confirmed Mayor DiBlasio's my appointment as Commissioner, Taxi and Limousine Commission. Councilman Vacca who recommended me for the appointment cited me for my integrity and successful work experience in delivering services to the communities at large. For many NYC residents who live in neighborhoods not adequately served by public transportation taxis and private care services are an important lifeline as well as providing employment opportunities for newly arrived immigrants. On May 29th, 2014, received an Honorary Doctorate in the Arts from Lehman College. Such a recognition validates the community arts movement and its achievements. Further, continued investment in the community's cultural development as both a public and/or private priority will generate a significant return. With a move from a non profit mentality and public policy to a commodity type strategy, the impact would become more evident.
