Statewide Capital Case Coordinator

Capital Case Coordinator responsible for supervising all death penalty cases in the Los Angeles office. Litigate complex federal petitions for writs of habeas corpus in the Supreme Court of the United States, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States District Courts. Prosecute appeals and respond to state petitions for writs of habeas corpus on behalf of the People of the State of California in the Supreme Court of the United States, the California Supreme Court, and the California Court of Appeal. Prepare amicus curiae merits briefing for the Supreme Court of the United States on behalf of California and joining States. Supervise investigation of crimes. File criminal complaints, and conduct arraignments, preliminary hearings and jury and bench trials. Respond to motions to recuse City and District Attorneys. Respond to inquiry letters from the public. Supervise student interns. Designated an office expert on United States Supreme Court litigation, capital litigation, federal habeas corpus, and mental health issues.

Assist advocates for states preparing to argue in the Supreme Court of the United States. Attend oral arguments. Review and report on new opinions and cert. grants.
