Co-facilitated national and regional training of trainers courses, and national pilot Spanish language course for HIV-positive peer workers.

Together with David Werner and the local health team, we developed many participatory community-based teaching methods and initiated training-of-trainers workshops with coalitions of community health programs around the world. Co-authored Helping Health Workers Learn; played a major role in developing, writing, and researching other publications such as Where There Is No Doctor and Where There Is No Dentist; reviewed translations and organized publication in Spanish. Working with PHC/community development Project Piaxtla in Ajoya, Sinaloa, Mexico: provided direct PHC services, trained local staff, recruited promotores de salud (community health workers), planned and conducted annual promotores trainings. Helped lead a wide range of community mobilization activities designed to improve health outcomes, such as: improving water supply and sanitation, increasing immunization coverage, promoting oral rehydration, discouraging unsafe birth practices, developing CHILD-to-child methodology and activities (with David Morley), replacing usurious corn lending practices with cooperative corn banks, and supporting equitable land distribution. Working with community-based rehabilitation Project Projimo: arranged training opportunities for local disabled youth to learn production of prosthetics and wheelchairs, and establish a community garden and playground.
