Despite the enormous potential of synthetic biology, most bio-produced ingredients never make it out ofthe laboratory, with less than 25 small molecules manufactured at scale over the last decade. Sestina Bio was established to solve this problem. Inspired by next generation pharmaceutical companies, Sestina has developed a new technology platform designed to produce proprietary high-dimensional data sets that power machine learning algorithms to massively de-risk scale up in the earliest R&D phase. Sestina is the first syn-bio company to apply ultra-high throughput single cell technology and high dimensional datasets to the problem of syn-bio manufacturing and has a robust pipeline of new products under development. The company was acquired in December of 2022 by Inscripta.

RubrYc Therapeutics, spun out from HealthTell in April 2018, focused on developing novel antibody therapeutics using a proprietary AI-driven discovery platform. As Chairman of the Board, I guided the company through its critical early stages, providing strategic direction and fostering key industry partnerships that advanced our mission. RubrYc was acquired by iBio in August of 2021.

iCarbonX is dedicated to revolutionizing healthcare through the integration of multi-omics technologies, such as genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, microbiome, and phenotypical profiling. Their Digital Life Platform combines these technologies with advanced computational analysis and machine intelligence to promote scientific discoveries and support innovation in disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and health care.

As the Founder and CEO of HealthTell, I led the company from inception through to its acquisition by iCarbonX in 2017. HealthTell specialized in ImmunoSignature™ Technology, a proprietary platform capable of broadly characterizing antibody responses in the blood, with principle applications in infectious diseases.

QuantaLife, Inc. was formed to develop, manufacture and market a revolutionary nucleic acid testing concept for the Life Science Research, Clinical Molecular Diagnostics, Personalized Medical Care and Industrial markets. Our suite of products, which are based on our proprietary nucleic acid testing method, will enable rapid detection and quantification of nucleic acids in complex samples on a flexible, automated instrument. This technology provides an order of magnitude improvement in performance over current platforms at a fraction of the cost. QuantaLife is a small biotechnology startup involved in the early development phases of the technology.

During my 18-year tenure at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, I helped lead the creation and development of the nation’s first civilian biodefense program. This initiative played a crucial role in enhancing national security by developing advanced technologies and methodologies to detect and counter biological threats.
