I have extensive experience in intellectual property and related commercial matters, primarily in the areas of computer hardware and software, data communications, and telephony. In addition to my career as a lawyer, I have more than 15 years experience in the software industry and have written numerous books and magazine articles on technology topics. I have represented plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of commercial disputes relating to technology. I have represented patent holders and accused infringers in patent infringement lawsuits and appeals involving a variety of technologies and industries, including automotive products, web browser technology, internet credit card transaction security, web-based educational tools, MEMS microphones, directory-enabled networking, oil well drilling fluid formulation, surgical devices, power meters, pipeline valve design, hotel central reservation systems, and wireless networking. I have also represented plaintiffs and defendants in trademark infringement lawsuits involving agriculture, business, e-cigarette, and nutrition products. I have also represented plaintiffs and defendants in copyright infringement lawsuits involving computer software and architectural designs. In addition to infringement litigation, I have represented clients in technology-related commercial lawsuits and appeals involving a variety of issues, including trade secrets, covenants not to compete, corporate governance, contract disputes, and employment discrimination. Outside of litigation, I have represented businesses in a variety of intellectual property transactions, including patent and trademark prosecution, registering copyrights, analyzing intellectual property portfolios, and drafting, reviewing, and enforcing software development and licensing contracts.I am admitted to practice in the State Courts of Texas and Illinois, U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Western, and Eastern Districts of Texas, the Northern District of Illinois, the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, the Fifth and Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal, the U.S Supreme Court, and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
