T Systems Australia was the overseas subsidiary of a US family company whose core business is manufacturing and marketing T-Tape drip irrigation to the Australian, China, Asia Pacific, Indian Subcontinent and Sub Saharan Africa markets. Turnover $17 million with 65 staff.Roles: Strategic planning and strategic direction (both international corporate and local subsidiary level).Report to the Board in USA being totally responsible for the business.Project development in China, Asia Pacific, Indian Subcontinent and Africa.Negotiation with key distributors, major customers and suppliers.Implementation of change management strategies in a production focused environment.Managing overseas subsidiary relationships with overseas parent and overseas subsidiary in the Republic of South Africa. Achievements:Maintain leadership position and market share in a competitive domestic horticultural market in Australia.Developed international export business into Asia and sub-Sahara Africa to grow the business volume.Market development to gain penetration into broader segments in intensive irrigated agriculture (permanent sub surface drip into sugar cane, cotton and grapes).Developed recycling strategy for reuse of recovered polyethylene drip tape resin for re-manufacture into drip tape for lower price point export markets. The objective was to utilise extra factory capacity, solve the issue of recycling, and gain penetration into the Chinese market and to increase profitability of the business.Implemented best practice system within production including ISO 9000 accreditation.Developed new strategies for growth outside core manufacturing of drip tape. This included associated products and performance monitoring hardware and agronomic support.

Established this successful startup business from feasibility stage on a Greenfield site. The business packed and marketed horticultural produce for the domestic and export market from the Burdekin region. A throughput of 400,000 cartons employing 100 personnel. I maintained directorship and a financial interest in this business up to its sale to IAMA Ltd in October 1996.
