Javelin Biotech launched in the summer of 2019 with a team of scientists focused on developing solutions for specific challenges of drug discovery and development. Javelin integrates a microphysiological system (MPS), commonly referred to as “organ-on-a-chip,” with interactive computational software to help inform human pharmacokinetic (PK) predictions, a key measure in evaluating new drug candidates in preclinical research. The recently launched Liver Tissue Chips are easy to use and deliver insights pharmaceutical researchers need to build confidence and advance therapies towards the clinic. A broad platform of additional tissues and applications relevant to clinical research are in the pipeline.

In late 2020 I lead the successful exit of the business to LifeSpan Biosciences Inc., through its lead investor Thompson Street Capital.

As a kind of ‘eBay/craigslist for the academic freezer, Kerafast is the only company selling rare and unique research materials directly out of laboratories at universities and research institutions. There are typically hundreds of freezers on any one campus, each storing tens of thousands unique biomaterials, summing to an essentially limitless global supply. By creating a commercial market and a logistical solution for mobilizing these ‘as is’ materials, Kerafast has built a vertical marketplace and a unique and sustainable business model.
