New technologies have been introduced in the last two years at an unprecedented level; mainly focusing on energy efficiencies and flexible manufacturing dimensions. Reducing core space is key to the business case for building development, with control system advancements helping to realise the challenge of minimising the number of lifts, required to meet passenger and goods traffic.Of equal interest are the strategic changes taking place in the post sales service business where we are seeing subcontracting becoming common place, a trend that relies on the principal supplier providing responsible supervision. Economics continue to drive the property service charges with clients seeking assured annual costs for lift maintenance and repairs. This requirement forcost certainty has led to an increased popularity for a fully comprehensive (all parts and labour) scope of services. It should be noted that a consequence of the development of sophisticated technologies means that the older installed base becomes obsolete faster. Therefore, spare parts are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain on equipment over 15 years old.At D2E we face the challenge of offering advice on new technologies and changes in strategic approaches whilst at the same time being very conscious of the economic drivers affecting our client’s business. We look forward to the next 10 years with enthusiasm, excitement and zest.
