Bill has spoken and given presentations at hundreds of conferences, symposia, webinars, and presentations across the US at national and state AIA events, the ILFI Living Building Challenge unconference, Greenbuild, the Northeast Sustainability Energy Association (NESEA), ASHRAE, New Buildings Institute, Sandia National Laboratories, Efficiency Vermont, AIA NH 2030 Professional series, CSI, Net Zero Coalition, Energy Path, and others. He has used radio, webinars, television, and other media to communicate to audiences regionally, nationally and globally. Bill has lectured, participated on juries, and taught classes on sustainable and ecological design since the 1970’s at the Yestermorrow Design Build School, the University of Vermont, Dartmouth College, the University of Pennsylvania, Sci-Arc and numerous other institutions. He has served as the president of the VT Chapter of the AIA, a board member and public policy chair for Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility, a board member at Yestermorrow Design Build School, and numerous community boards.

Bill’s book, “The New Net Zero,” published in 2014, is the most respected reference manual on Net Zero design of larger Net Zero buildings and communities. It has been praised by environmental leaders including: Ed Mazria, founder of Architecture 2013, Rick Fedrizzi, the founder of the US Green Building Council, Bill McDonough, a globally recognized thought leader and architect in sustainability, Bill McKibben, the founder of 350.org, and many others. It includes construction details and specifications for steel, concrete, and wood structures of all scales, as well as case studies that demonstrate how to achieve Net Zero results that are readily achievable, cash flow positive, and beautiful. The book has impacted and supported the cost effective design and construction of Net Zero buildings in the US and beyond.
