We have to engage and support them with opportunities to do meaningful work for a living wage, especially as they have the greatest stake in a livable future.Given the scale and breadth of global crises, collaboration between organizations is essential -- no one can effectively tell stories or build solutions alone. Networks built around aligned values/goals, mutual respect, and trust are the most viable path to progress. Philanthropy should shift resources and power to organizations and networks on the ground who have the expertise and wisdom of dedicated community members. With support for capacity building and networking, relatively small catalytic grants can create value in transformational ways.

Co-created and chaired annual two-day conference consisting of speakers, panels, student presentations, and other special events in an effort to strengthen the connection between our institutional mission and the everyday intellectual and social life of the school. The conference provides a wide array of perspectives on political, social, economic and environmental issues that our communities face locally, nationally, and globally. Responsibilities include outreach for speakers/panels, schedule construction and all logistical coordination, working with faculty and students to organize presentations, and management of a significant annual budget.Past speakers include Eric Schlosser, Angela Davis, Ronald Takaki, The Hon. Teaching has included US History Honors, Modern World History, and electives such as History, Culture and Identity; Hidden Histories; Asian Studies: Vietnam and others. Created and led Transdisciplinary Leadership Program pilot course on Migration and the Refugee Crisis. Explored Transdisciplinary approaches in courses such as Finding The Balance: Guns, Culture, and Policy in the U.S. and Left Behind in the Land of Plenty: Poverty in the United States. Deep interest in and experience with interdisciplinary approaches, especially involving film and literature. All courses focus intensively on critical reading, thinking, writing, and performance assessments via websites, presentations, and other projects. Exploring assessment via competencies rather than grades.
