Our power services cover: ● Applying chemistry, engineering and metallurgy to improve power and steam plant design and operation. ● Corrosion in boilers, steam turbines, condensers, cooling circuits and auxiliary plant. ● Corrosion and inhibition in heating and aircon systems● On-line and off-line corrosion, oxygen pitting, stress cracking, fatigue,microbial corrosion, high temperature oxidation, chemical cleaning, inhibitor selection and chemical safety. ● Investigation of plant failures regarding insurance claims and loss adjustment. ● Expert witness support

Lead a group of chemists, material and metallurgical staff providing support to coal-fired and nuclear power stations re. corrosion and fouling problems in all plant items. This involved chemical cleaning applications, material selection and metallurgical investigations. We also undertook commissionng and re-commissioning projects

While based at Power Technology Centre, Ratcliffe on Soar, Nottingham (the Technology Division of PowerGen, now Eon) Bill provided engineering and scientific support within the Company and to external clients, directing the project work of 5 graduates and two post graduates in chemistry, chemical engineering and material sciences:· Bill investigated plant failures and advised on the remanent life of boilers, turbine compomemts, electrostatic precipitators, airheaters, condenser tubes, cooling systems and many types of heat exchanger.· Bill completed investigations of corrosion pitting, stress corrosion cracking and corrosion fatigue in the susceptible components involved in power generation.· Bill advised on feed and boiler water chemistry, chemical cleaning methodology and materials selection. · Bill carried out pre-contract technical reviews, material selection, life assessments and financial analyses of plant retrofits, including flue gas desulphurisation equipment.
