Now retired for the second time from Lynas Corporation after a turbulent seven years completing the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant in Kuantan, Malaysia. Through suspension due to the Global Financial Crisis, this project required a large degree of commitment and stubbornness to reach final completion. The project required significant time living and working in both Malaysia and China, with significant design input and a significant level of equipment sourcing from China.Retired initially from Australia's BlueScope Steel (formerly BHP Steel) in December 2006 after 42 years with that Company and in the steel industry. During that career, was successful in a variety of roles in Operations, Marketing, Finance, Strategic Planning, Business Development and General Management. From 1994, most of the work was focussed on new steel coating businesses in Asia, including five years based in Singapore and Malaysia (1994-99, regional general management role) and two years based in China (2004-05, business president role). These international assignments were involved mainly with establishment, construction and start-up of major new businesses in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Saudi Arabia and China, most of these businesses being joint ventures with local partners.Aiming to utilise extensive learning and management experience in Asia to assist and add value to other organisations seeking to establish and grow profitable business activities in Asia. Have formed a new company (Catalyst Business Development) as a vehicle for this work, and would prefer to become a team member (with “skin in the game”) rather than a “traditional consultant”.Specialties: 1.
