Who Am I?I'm often asked to define who I am, let's start with who I am not; I am not someone who fits into a pigeon hole, be it square or round, or any other shape. Nor do I endeavour to be different, I just am, naturally so.With a strong commitment to my purpose, I am resolutely focused, efficient, effective in responding to the needs of people and organisations.I enjoy stories, especially listening to others. This helps me draw on my knowledge, skills, experience to share my take on their situation, going hands on, or as a mentor, or a coach, if needs be. Reflection and feedback are especially key at Board level. Being an Adviser can be challenging to both sides.A lifelong learner means I am curious and creative and innovative; an entrepreneurial spirit. Studying, fixing, improving things and systems comes as second nature.Did I mention that I'm a lifelong motorcyclist, passionate about my favoured brands and their values and the experiences offered? Would my appearing on a motorcycle challenge your expectations? I hope so.How do I Use This?First and foremost, I assist others, individually or the company, to clarify their core purpose, their real values and beliefs and what they most want to achieve. We establish the starting point as of now. We don't spend excessive time trying to revisit the past; that's either psychotherapy for the person (I'm not qualified in that), or a pointless blame game for the business. Where are we going, what's the route, how do we know we are on the way, what's the timeframe?It sounds simple, but we all have to roll up our sleeves and pitch in, more often than not; I'm used to that. No theoretical team building exercises, just clarity of focus, get on with it, no rehearsal, this is for real.What Good Comes of It?The most frequently cited benefit is someone to listen, someone to talk to, someone to help project the positive outlook the business needs. It's a lonely place at the top.We fix things, together, we make them work the way we agree is right. We build an enduring, trusting relationship, sharing contacts, ideas, opportunities.We get results, we adapt, we grow.Be brave, let's have an honest conversation.
