Ran the head office of the Army’s Aviation Branch (2500 personnel) with a staff of 75 personnel (50:50 civilian and military). Formulated policy on all AAC personnel matters including officer and soldier recruiting, and pilot selection. Headed selection boards for officer and pilot selection. Directed support to veterans and conducted extensive representational activities. Maintained the system of governance for Army Aviation safety and had personal responsibility for the safe delivery of technical modifications to all Army air platforms and authorised all trials conducted by the Army’s helicopter operational trials unit.

Led contingency and force structure planning and day to day strategic management for all UK battlefield helicopters. Provided advice on all aspects of UK battlefield helicopter operation to national and international staffs.

Commanded the UK's Helicopter Force in Iraq, Force consisted of 250 personnel from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force and was equipped with Chinook, Puma, Lynx and Sea King helicopters. Led on restructuring UK military aviation support to Southern Iraq.

Responsible for capability development for all UK battlefield helicopters and act as the lead on Urgent Operational Requirements. Led the Land Force's input to the £3.5bn battlefield helicopter programme.

Led on the drafting of policy comment and the development of all operational plans. Conducted the initial development of the plan to facilitate Hungary's integration into NATO. Designed and delivered the first NATO Operational Planning course to the Hungarian Land Force staff.

Trained personnel from NATO Navy, Army and Air Forces in the full range of operational planning tools including collaborative planning techniques, effective briefing and task/resource assessment. Acted as mentor for the Joint Operational Planning Group Chief on a major NATO exercise in the USA.

Responsible for the development of British Army aviation air and ground communications equipment and procedures. Led in the delivery of a groundbreaking prototype information exchange mechanism for the Apache helicopter and personally presented its demonstration to the Minister for Defence Procurement.
