To most Incubator's credit: many entrepreneurs really need the foundational help that incubators and senior advisors across legal, business, technology, funding, operations and other traditional advisors provide. At best though, that gets them to the starting line. Running a good race, however, requires a level of insight, strategy and expertise modeled to todays challenges to be creative, resourceful and adapt. Current incubators state a 20-30% success rate which I see as deplorable. Why not be innovative as an entity strives to help entrepreneurs, knowing their success benefits many.     I served as the CMO for two fitness equipment companies while also running Headwaters Marketing for a select few clients. I also drafted the arguments that won a $5M DOE grant for CSU and was to define and implement the outreach strategy. The initial company First Degree Fitness was in serious decline before we came on board as it had a poor channel reputation and sales suffered. With very modest budgets under 3%, then 5% of targeted revenues, the small team largely made up of Headwaters outsourced talent created momentum for a sales performance profile that approached $3M and building momentum. The company was sold and without our market and brand momentum, sales again declined. Healthcare and fitness remain a strong interest area for us as innovation and a higher value remain as important needs.
