The work I do to support the Race functions of the university consist of: • Project managing work on the Race Equality Charter benchmark to ensure that our 14-point action plan (which covers improving the representation and progression of BME staff and students is completed by 30th November 2024).• Identifying and supporting the implementation of strategies and activities for addressing key equalities issues at the university through developing an anti-racist toolkit. • Leading activities to increase awareness and engagement on key equalities issues by arranging guest speakers for Black History Month. • Carrying out a training needs analysis and identifying, implementing, and evaluating training and development activities such as the Race Literacy and Race Equality Allies workshop which I deliver with. • I also work in partnership with colleagues across the university, including UEB, senior managers, HR colleagues, staff equality network groups, student-facing staff, the students’ union, and other internal and external colleagues designing procedures and policies to enhance Racial equity. The work I do to support the Disability functions of the university consist of: • Liaising with the UEB sponsor for disability. • Supporting the ‘Disability and Carers Staff Network’, although, we are trying to re-energise and relaunch the group. • Monitor the universities ‘Disability Confident’ accreditation and redevelop the action plan. Just to remind colleagues that the Disability Confident is a government scheme designed to encourage employers to recruit and retain disabled people and those with health conditions, and it had replaced the previous ‘Two Ticks Positive About Disabled People’ scheme. It is a voluntary scheme that has been developed by employers and disabled people's representatives.• Member of the National Association of Disabled Staff Networks, to connect with public sector staff networks to share ideas of best practices and sector standards.

I provide tutorial support on the 'Music Strategies and Entrepreneurship' unit to students studying BA (Hons) Popular Music Production. This unit provides students with an opportunity to critically reflect and capitalise on their accrued skill-set on their course and in doing so, suggest appropriate career pathways post-graduation. The first part of this unit focuses on assessing the personal knowledge and professional skills required essential to employability in the music and entertainment associated industries and beyond. The second part of the unit addresses entrepreneurial and freelance business approaches, encouraging student autonomy both in and outside the creative arts economy. I also engage and arrange for professional speakers from within the music industry to deliver presentations to enhance student knowledge on the unit, sharing their experiences of these environments and the associated realities, demands and opportunities.

My role involved working within the Research Office, providing high-quality support for research analytics, development, and managing the lifecycle journey of students completing a Ph.D. from admission to graduation. I work closely with colleagues to support research information management and data collection for government agencies and support the development of the university's research profile. Within this role, I also manage the university ethics application process to ensure ethical compliance and regulations are maintained.

As the Chair of the BAME Network, I have a strategic role to play in representing the vision and purpose of the network and will be required to ensure that the management functions are carried out, that there is full participation at meetings, all relevant matters are discussed and that effective decisions are made and carried out.The purpose and aims of the Solent BAME Network is to undertake the following objectives;• Providing formal representation of the BAME staff network voice by participating and reporting key issues to the Solent University Equality & Wellbeing Committee.• Holding quarterly sessions for the purposes of creating a safe space for staff to connect, discuss thoughts and opinions on key areas concerning them.• Supporting and delivering thematic events and activities internally and externally. • Work with the University to promote career development opportunities for both professional and academic members of staff.

My role involves working as part of the Research Programme and Development team within the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Office, providing high quality support for research analytics and development. I work closely with colleagues to support research information management and data collation, research ethics, and support the development of the University's REF submission. I also work with staff across the University to increase external research and innovation income, raise its research and innovation profile, and optimise the external impact of its research outputs.

Solent Voice is a people forum for Solent employees. It's an opportunity for managers and representatives to share ideas, seek feedback, and collaboratively engage with colleagues across the organisation to improve the people experience at Solent. Provide a creative and informed contribution and act as a constructive critic in looking at the objectives and plans devised by the SoCo Music Directors and Management Team. Responsibilities include: 1. Monitoring the performance of the SoCo Music Management Team, especially with regard to the progress made towards achieving the determined company strategy and objectives.2. Reviewing financial information and that financial controls and systems of risk management are robust and defensible.3. Connecting the SoCo Music Directors and Management Team with public and private sector organisations, as well as representing SoCo Music externally.4. Ensure that SoCo Music Project accounts are reported to its funders, supporters, and stakeholders by presenting a true and fair reflection of its actions and financial performance and that the necessary internal control systems are put into place and monitored regularly and rigorously.

Challenging racism in any professional environment is crucial to UNISON’s work because no workplace where racism is allowed to flourish can ever be effectively organised. The role of the BMO is self-organised which also works in partnership with other parts of the union to identify and promote our race equality agenda. I am committed to improving equality and diversity in the workplace and challenging racism, prejudice, and discrimination, as well as in the wider community. I also support members to access employment rights, pay, promotion and training. I attend the South-East UNISON Black Members Officers regional meetings held at the Unison Centre, and Black Members Conference.

Assignments required visiting catering and food establishments ordering specific drinks and meals taking note of the service, quality of food, appearance and cleanliness of the venue as well as looking out for some key pointers from the assignment brief during the visit. After the visit completed an online questionnaire describing my experience and thoughts as well as uploading photos from the visit.Skills for this role were definitely having a good eye for detail and the ability to write well.

Cabin Fever Some would say that the Cabin Fever are something of a local super-group. Fronted by Daniel Hall, who spent years in his bedroom, writing and recording a song a day, he finally got a band together in 2010. The band is made up of the cream of South Coast's top talent from the past five years. Featuring ex-members of bands like Dead!Dead!Dead, Thomas Tantrum, The Glad Rags, Cabin Fever play a unique blend of "reggae punk psychedelia". They're managed by Klaxons frontman Jamie Reynolds and already have enough famous fans to fill a room. I was offered a fixed-term position to develop and implement a recruitment subdivision for a management consultancy. Using my extensive recruitment knowledge and expertise I successfully set up search and selection processes. Helping the business to generate revenue and secure new business opportunities.

I was appointed to assist in the expansion of a recruitment consultancy, placing top performers within Housing Associations, Developers and Property Consultancy firms. This involved using my networking and communication skills to establish myself in both the public and commercial market place.I was responsible for dealing with new businesses, delivery of orders and staff management of three recruitment consultants and one administrator, as well as deputising for the managing director in his absence.

Dead!Dead!Dead! signed to Coventry label, Tough Love Records in 2006 to release “George Lassoes the Moon” (TLV004). The band played alongside great acts such as Arctic Monkeys, Ash, Tom Vek, Jamie-T, Glass Vegas, Young Knives, Mystery Jets, Scouting For Girls and The Noisettes, as well as extensive tours with Mumm-Ra. They also received excellent airplay and reviews, on the Steve Lamacq and Jo Whiley show’s on Radio 1 as well being the featured band on Phil Jupitus’s show on 6 Music. Sadly the band split in 2008. This role involved dealing with high level, and 'brand sensitive', complaints that enter the business from various sources. In particular, I dealt with cases raised by MPs, the media and the legal department. The material is often complex and of a delicate nature. I was required, often with limited time and information, to analyse situations, solve problems and make difficult decisions. My success was judged on my ability to resolve potentially business-damaging complaints, satisfying the source of complaint and the business interests. The role involved constant liaison with senior management and high level contacts from within British Gas and the wider industry to ensure customer satisfaction and retention. Various databases require updating with information that were used for statistical and root-cause analysis.
