I currently work in Transport Canada's Environmental Programs and Protection Standards group in the Marine Safety and Security Branch.I focus on standards and regulations as they apply to Marine Air Pollution. Some of the projects I'm currently engaged in are on the collection of fuel consumption data and calculation of domestic emission carbon intensity indicators, the life cycle assessment of carbon emissions related to biofuels, stakeholder engagement with industry on the use of low carbon intensity fuels, stakeholder engagement with the International Maritime Organization on the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from ships, and research regarding the safe use of various zero and low carbon intensity fuels.

My current position with Integrated Technical Services – Marine Engineering (ITS-ME) is as a Senior Project Engineer and Life Cycle Manager (LCM). The primary purpose of my position is to provide Life Cycle Management support and expertise of assigned vessel systems and equipment throughout all their 4 life cycle phases. This is specific to assigned vessel systems and equipment and not the physical vessel itself.I focus on minimizing life cycle maintenance costs for my equipment and by identifying and implementing cost effective measures, which includes assisting regional personnel in performing their duties such as overseeing contractor work being completed, which is based on a specification that I completed for an equipment upgrade and/or installation. I work with, and provide assistance to, technical personnel from all regions and Headquarters to ensure that the common goals and objectives of the Life Cycle Management System (LCMM) are achieved throughout the CCG.

With the overall responsibility for the engine room department including 9 crew members I supervised the operation and maintenance of the propulsion and electrical power plant, determined the fuel oil, lube oil and consumables required for each trip, managed day-to-day routine inspections of the deck and engine room machinery and ensured all machinery was in top working order.I provided leadership promoting and maintaining safety initiatives and programs to all engineering crew aboard assigned vessels and enforced safe job practices through consistent communication and education.I developed a workplace culture that supported effective cost management and utilized engineering crew to optimize available resources in order to mitigate and facilitate in-house repairs.The company also gave me the responsibility to undertake the comprehensive project of developing and updating the Engine Room Procedures Manuals, each of which was tailored to a corresponding vessel in the dry-bulk fleet, where I delivered succinct, vessel specific Engine Room Procedures currently being used throughout the fleet.
