If you’re looking to connect with a cybersecurity presales “Swiss Army Knife,” who can help you get your solution regularly sold to your prospects we should talk. I’ve been in the cybersecurity industry for more than 20 years as a practitioner, leader, and a technical seller getting my hands dirty and learning from every encounter and every role. These experiences have given me a unique perspective in the industry, focused on clearing away the clutter, technobabble, and hype to distill the subject matter to the basic truths, requirements, and strategies necessary for today’s complex environments to protect themselves. My approach is a collaborative entrepreneurial one, as I believe cybersecurity is solved by working with smart, diverse, motivated people who are driven to solving these problems. At the heart of a successful presales team in cybersecurity are people who understand value-driven selling conversations, and who can translate domain specific content into outcome relevant value. All of that requires a close working relationship with the rest of the organization, deep technical knowledge, and the confidence and presentation skills to earn the attention and respect of prospects and customers. One of the most important pieces of customer feedback I ever got was when a Fortune 100 company that signed with us told us that what really got their attention during the RFP process was how we approached getting to understand their issues and needs, and didn’t show up with a “sales pitch.” That sale was part of what earned me special recognition at my last employer, as it was also the company’s largest sale to date. With media experience including WGN Radio in Chicago, various interviews, podcasts, and keynotes, I am able to communicate the complicated and jargon-based world of cybersecurity in ways that resonate with audiences from the C-suite to the community center. From the boardroom to the third-grade classroom, I can tailor these complex messages in accessible and impactful ways for a wide variety of audiences. When not working I maintain my site, between-two-firewalls.com, over-automates my home, seek out new breweries to sample, and work with my local Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).I’m looking both for my next big challenge and interesting projects for organizations interested in my skillset. Please contact me if you have use of my capabilities

Vice President, Security & Content StrategyDeepwatch Jan 2024 - Jul 2024Tampa, Florida, UsI took over the Deepwatch content development department and jump started new content to increase our average daily social interactions by more than 50% compared to 2023 averages, and new follower sign-up by more than 200% quarter over quarter in Q1. We worked with Deepwatch's subject matter experts to build the brand new Deepwatch Overwatch podcast looking at the big-picture issues in cybersecurity, and the From the SOC series, sharing the expertise of Deepwatch's SMEs in deeper-dive topics around secops issues. All this while supporting new messaging for a myriad of new Deepwatch solutions. -
Vice President, Security StrategyDeepwatch Jul 2022 - Jan 2024Tampa, Florida, UsAs a member of the Office of the Field CTO, I worked very directly with individual sales teams on high-impact opportunities to strategize and execute on individual closing plans for these opportunities in the high six and 7 figure ranges. In 2022 we drove a 100% increase in year-over-year new revenue, which earned me a place in the Pinacle Club for that year. In mid 2023 I collaborated with sales, marketing, executives, and consultants to formally rebuild Deepwatch's go-to-market message and plan around the concept of cyber resilience - something we've seen the industry start using much more frequently since. This role involved mentoring sales teams, engaging channel partners and wooing new channel partners, creating content for marketing, and continuing to be a deep technical expert on cybersecurity and secops in particular.. -
Managing Director Of Solutions ArchitectureDeepwatch Jan 2021 - Jul 2022Tampa, Florida, UsI got the rare privilege to hire, train, and unleash a national team of talented, value driven, solutions architects for Deepwatch. This team was built to support an "NFL cities coverage" map that our new CRO had been given the opportunity to create. It was truly my pleasure to assemble, mentor, and develop such a high-skill team to meet and exceed Deepwatch sales goals, including all the "HR things" like developing their comp plan from scratch and creating career paths that supported hiring and retaining a diverse group of experience and skill levels into appropriate roles and with good room for growth. All of this led to a high functioning team that retained these high quality resources year over year.During this time I was also asked to help train all new sales team employees on Deepwatch solutions, and on key aspects of our go-to-market strategy and tactics. In addition to expanding my conference speaking opportunities, such as the keynote at GPSec Atlanta in 2021, I became the in-house expert for WGN Radio's John Williiams Show to discuss cybersecurity events starting with the Colonial Pipeline ransomware breach. Exposure from this led to several new client opportunities for the company. -
Director Of Solutions ArchitectureDeepwatch Sep 2018 - Jan 2021Tampa, Florida, UsI was able to pioneer a number of Deepwatch's technical selling tools and processes having been hired on as the company's first purpose-hired Solutions Architect. That means that a number of items such as presentations, demos, scoping process, and the like were either edited or created by me as we drove Deepwatch from series A funding through to series B. Outside of those "presales related" tools, I developed and maintained our quoting tool that ensured quick delivery of a quote once a customer's environment was properly scoped and sized. This tool was in use until 2022.I also had the privilege to collaborate with legal and delivery to revise and finalize most of Deepwatch's solution descriptions and other contractual documents. Finally, I was part of the team including R&D, delivery, sales, and others who developed Deepwatch's patented "Deepwatch Lens Score," for objectively quantifying an organization's SecOps capabilities. -
