William Clementi, Pharm.D, FCP, a graduate of Boston University and the University of Texas, has followed a science-driven career path since completing his NIH Training Fellowship (under Drs. John McNay and Tom Ludden), and joining the faculty at the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. During his tenure at UT, Dr. Clementi had cross-appointments in both the College of Pharmacy in Austin and the Departments of Medicine and Pharmacology at the Health Sciences Center in San Antonio. Primary responsibilities were interdisciplinary, and he led innovative programs both in the Colleges and the hospital setting. Dr. Clementi was Director of the Clinical Pharmacokinetic Consultation Service, providing novel computer-based drug dosing to the acute care setting, in both the Audie Murphy Veterans Administration Hospital (now an 8000 bed facility) and Bexar County Hospital. Dr. Clementi established the first Therapeutic Drug Monitoring or TDM clinic to continue drug therapy monitoring and evaluation of cardiac patients after discharge. During his academic tenure, 13 students were awarded a doctoral degree under his tutelage, 62 peer-reviewed manuscripts were published, and two major competitive grants awarded - the largest one, a VA Merit Review Grant which allowed the application of nonlinear mixed modeling assessment of routine clinical data to improve dosing of antiarrhythmic and anticonvulsant medications in the emergency or acute care settings.
