The system needed numerous modifications to meet the complex needs of the hospital. For this reason, I decided to build our own system. I taught myself ASP.NET, VB.NET, C#, WCF, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Webforms, and MVC. I designed a comprehensive system and used the Agile Scrum development process to build the system along with my team. When complete, the system met the exact needs of the hospital. It comprised 275 tables, 175 webpages, over 900 stored procedures, and had ETL processes connected to 25 other system both internal and external to the hospital. This system saved $30,000/year in contract and service fees and thousands of man-hours by significantly streamlining the appointment and enrollment process.Leadership:In a previous role I worked with two teams that had been very siloed for years prior to my taking the position. I had been tasked with getting the teams to work together to produce a joint finance/operations dashboard. I could have “ordered” the teams to work together, but I knew this would produce only short-term results at best. Instead, I relied on my training in group dynamics as a former social worker and my training in Lean management. I first worked to build trust with each team individually. I then began joint team meetings to begin working through past disagreements and get negative feelings out in the open where they could be addressed. I held non-confrontational sessions where team members shared skills. The team began coming together to design and build the joint dashboard with shared ideas, and ultimately completed the project.
