About Bill Havanki
Hello! I hope you’re having a good day.I’m a software engineer, and that’s pretty much what I aimed to be since I was a kid. My first coding experience was using the Basic Programming cartridge on the Atari 2600. Later on, when my family had an Apple //c, I spent lots of time with Applesoft BASIC and hand-entering programs in hexadecimal from computer magazines. Since then, my experience has expanded somewhat.I’ve been a software professional since the late nineties, with college and graduate school experience before that. I have most often focused on architecture, design, and implementation, but I have served as a formal tester and a requirements engineer. I have been technical lead for various projects as well, sharing my expertise, managing plans, and helping us all get the job done.My strengths are in services, middleware, and cloud / big data. I've also designed and developed analytic algorithms to extract value from the data at hand. I love developing good-looking and useful web applications to present my work. I admit that I have a bit of a thing for fonts.Taking a lesson from the woodcutter, I keep my axe sharp by always being on the lookout for new and useful technologies, tools, and processes. The day-to-day life of building software is more fun, rewarding, and effective that way. I enjoy sharing information about what I’ve found, through presentations, informal mentoring, or just quick emails to the team. I’m happy to get up in front of a group of people and talk shop, as long as they don’t mind my sense of humor.Why do I do what I do? I want to work on fascinating software systems that make peoples' lives easier. I consider it a success every time I’ve helped someone get their own job done. The best feeling is to know that you’ve made your users happy.
