GISP: It's not the DO, it's the WHO!A GISP has never been just about what I DO in GIS, it's about WHO I am as a professional!Retired: Living the Dream of my 'Golden Years' & in the Zip Code I grew up in! - Aging in Place - Doing it Well - so far!A Geospatial Paladin - 'Have GISP - Did Travel' - '...A knight without armor in a spatial land...' As the Retired Executive Director of GISCI, I was their geospatial Paladin, responsible for all things GISP, tending to a worldwide flock of Certified geospatial Professionals, and it is my personal goal to connect to every GISP on LinkedIn! (And I always did like Richard Boone's old TV series!.........:)From the Permian Basin of West Texas, the fracking capitol of the world, in a formerly sleepy W TX ranching and oil town, I had a geographically untethered position as their Executive Director, and, as such, I got to rub shoulders with geospatial professionals from all over the world! How cool is that?!!To this position, I brought a varied background, with experience in ranching, truck driving, technical sales and marketing, acquired coast-to-coast and border-to-border in these United States & Canada, budgeting and management from the same perspective, oil field production treatment chemicals from W TX and the Rockies, pipeline ROW mapping & negotiating, and (last but certainly not least) GIS from a Regional water-supply, Federal, and Municipal Enterprise perspective. All this came about after growing up on a ranch in West Texas (which the family still runs), obtaining a degree in Chemistry, an MTh, and having been a MGIS Candidate in the illustrious Penn State Online Program. In short, I am still Living the Dream, from a geospatial or any other perspective!.....and, I'm well into cultivating towards my 3rd 10,000 group of LinkedIn Contacts, and enjoying my simple life, active with my church family in a small, connected, West Texas community!............:)Specialties: I completed a GIS Certificate through Penn State's online program in 2009, was an MGIS Candidate starting in 2014. I am a current member of URISA, & the AAG, and a past member of ASPRS & the International Right of Way Association (IRWA) . I have served on Outreach Committee, the Applications Committee, and the Board of the GISCI, and still serve on the National Advisory Board of the GeoTech Center. .I received my GISP certification in January, 2010, and the rest is history in the making!!

Gis Division ManagerCity Of Midland, Tx Mar 2008 - Oct 2014Midland, Texas, UsFrom the Permian Basin of West Texas, the fracking capitol of the world, I was the City of Midland, Tx's GIS Division Manager-in-transition and the self-appointed, benevolent Genghis Khan & Visionary of GIS, devoted to showing the City and the world how GIS and Spatial Alchemy can better any group or system. We built a world-class GIS on a municipal budget, and all City groups were urged to follow our lead or get out of the way!I and a dedicated staff of 5 professionals headed the 2007 Esri SAG award winning GIS Division of the City of Midland, TX, with an ESRI Small Municipality ELA, Cityworks and Pictometry site licenses, as well as with RouteSmart, and ERDAS software. In 2012, the City gave me ROW pipeline contract responsibility, as well.I set the vision, direction, and workflow of the City GIS, supervising a staff of 5 GIS professionals, supporting over 150 ArcGIS desktop users in the municipality, ensuring that the City and Permian Basin had our full suite of services with the most accurate, up-to-date data available to them on a 24/7 basis. I acquired extensive experience in Shadow IT, having to keep an Enterprise alive and advancing, in spite of an IT group that 'didn't get it' and didn't play well with others.Responsibilities:- Manage an Enterprise, ESRI-centered GIS Division consisting of a staff of 5 GIS professionals - Publish web maps and datasets from an SDE/Oracle Enterprise system- Manage all GIS-related activities within the city infrastructure- Manage and publish a county-wide parcel dataset & coordinate with Appraisal Dist- Manage and publish a county-wide address dataset & coordinate with Area 911- Coordinate parcels and addresses on the Midland-Ector County border- Manage a Pictometry (now Eagleview) county-wide image base- Provide a developer-friendly dataset to aid area expansion- Manage and track all ROW contracts for the City-Manage RouteSmart optimization for the Solid Waste Dept. -
