Bill Hollander served as Louisville's 9th District Metro Councilmember for two terms, from 2015 to 2023. He was Council President Pro Tem and Democratic Caucus Chair during his second and third years on the Council and Budget Committee Chair the last five. Bill chose not to run for reelection in 2022, leaving office in January 2023. Bill led a successful effort for unprecedented affordable housing funding and was named Louisville's first "Champion of Affordable Housing" by the Affordable Housing Trust Fund. He was also the primary sponsor of legislation: + Providing an additional month for review & amendment of Louisville's budget+ Creating a civilian oversight system for LMPD+ Enhancing our tree canopy through a Public Tree Ordinance & revisions to the Land Development Code+ Amending Louisville’s Fair Housing Law to ban discrimination based on source of income + Protecting houseless Louisvillians by banning camp clearings without notice & an offer of services+ Strengthening ethics laws by registration & regulation of lobbyists & increased financial disclosures + Banning the discredited & dangerous practice of “conversion therapy”A longtime civic volunteer, Bill served as Chair of Leadership Louisville, Vice Chair of the Library Foundation, Vice Chair of Maryhurst, on the boards of the Fund for the Arts and the Children’s Hospital Foundation and President of the Crescent Hill Community Council and the Peterson Dumesnil House Foundation. He was also Treasurer of the Friends of the Crescent Hill Library and led a capital campaign at United Crescent Hill Ministries. Bill currently serves on the boards of Trees Louisville, Louisville Free Public Library Foundation and the Coalition for the Homeless.Bill was a Bingham Fellow in 1995-1996, involved in a project to revitalize farmers’ markets in the city. In 2014, he was a Bingham Fellow working on early childhood education in West Louisville. Until 2014, Bill was Managing Partner of Wyatt, Tarrant & Combs, where he practiced intellectual property law for 30 years. The firm was named a “Best Place to Work in Kentucky” in every year of Bill's leadership. Bill was recognized in The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and Kentucky Super Lawyers. A native of Tell City, Indiana, Bill graduated from Harvard College. After a seven-year career in broadcast journalism, Bill earned a degree from Indiana University School of Law at Bloomington.Bill and his wife Lisa Keener have been married since 1986. They have one son, Evan, and live in Crescent Hill.
