I worked full time in Nogales, Sonora for a year to set up a micro-finance project in northern Mexico. The microcredit project was started with a grant from USAID and CRS. The objective was to provide an alternative for poor people who may otherwise make the dangerous illegal border cross into the US. Small loans (and other financial support) are provided to help grow or start businesses.Part of the project was to set up a social investment fund where people can lend to the project to grow its reach. The social investment fund is a community investment opportunity which is a strategy of Socially Responsible Investing.

I helped support small businesses in a small community in northern Nicaragua. I was first exposed to microcredit in Nicaragua and have been working on microfinance projects since that time.
