Clad in my ever-present khakis and white shirts (seriously, a dress code with white shirts when you are flinging coffee all day?), I:- directed teams of highly-caffeinated artists and students- planned staff schedules so that customers would get the best service possible, cost-effectively, while ensuring everyone could show up to the concert/date/party they wanted,- coordinated employee training which included showing how to make drinks in glass mugs, so they could fully appreciate the beauty of a macchiato as well as exposed them to a lot of lessons on the socio-economic impact of the coffee trade during colonization to the present day.- coordinated the planning, development and delivery of customized service programs.- Improved store labor efficiency from second worst to second best in Atlanta market.- Decreased product waste by 75% within 3 months.- Often ran coffee tastings for other managers and switched the labels to see if they could really identify the flavor profile or they just had them memorized and faked it

Along with a fellow coffeehouse enthusiast, I launched this bohemian coffee joint which began as a place for a motley mix of insomniacs, students pulling all-nighters, and the otherwise nocturnally-inclined subculture living in the town to gather together, drink beer/coffee/tea, listen to music and watch the owners simultaneously perform re-enactments of kung-fu battles and brew some delightful espresso concoctions. Common Grounds offered a truly unique destination for its customers and became one of the most popular venues for indie entertainment in central Florida.

I accidentally started a marketing and design company after publishing a number of independent college 'zines and realizing1) college students who are interested in such riveting topics as philosophy, political science, and poetry are broke and can't pay for 'zines(2) I was absolutely much less terrible at design than most other people,(3) I needed money to pay rent.Before I knew it, I:- Developed one of the first U.S. Congressional campaign websites (1995)- Created and deployed a publicity campaign for the university branch of a major national political organization bring it back to life like the mighty phoenix.- Produced promotional materials and developed/executed distribution campaigns for national/regional musical acts including They Might Be Giants, Sister Hazel, and Edwin McCain. The Johns from TMBG were pretty cranky without coffee.- Formed a collective of local music venues and successfully negotiated lower rates resulting in up to 66% savings for clients on print advertising.- Successfully negotiated full corporate sponsorship of annual music festival.
