I am part of a health services research group investigating strategies to improve health care delivery in the field of intensive care medicine. As the team’s Health Economist, I lead the quantitative analysis portions of our portfolio of projects. Project topics range from novel measures for benchmarking hospitals, to outcomes in long-term acute care hospitals, to the impact of state-wide sepsis regulations, to the delivery of evidenced based practices with relation to interdisciplinary team rounding. My main project responsibilities include data acquisition, data management, statistical analysis, and student mentoring.

My post-doctoral fellowship included both research and academic facets. On the research side, I analyzed cross-sectional time-series data on the impacts of remedial math and reading courses on student performance and resulting psychological factors at a mid-West community college. Academically, I coordinated teaching assistants for all undergraduate economics courses. I also directly managed the teaching assistants, recitations, grading, and course logistics for the largest undergraduate course, Principles of Economics.

I taught a variety of courses throughout my time as a PhD student and post-doctoral fellow. These included: Fundamentals of Statistical Modeling (Spring 2015), Principles of Economics (Summer 2014), Topics in Economics and the Environment (Spring 2014), and Probability and Statistics for Business Applications (Summer 2011).

As a Summer Research Associate and then as an ongoing consultant, I collaborated with two senior RAND researchers on education economics projects. One project was an investigation of the retention and attraction effects of magnet programs in a local school district. The experience gave me exposure to research outside of the university-based setting as well as insight into the breadth of research at RAND through interactions with other Summer Associates and various RAND personnel.

As a volunteer through the AmeriCorps VISTA national service program, I worked at the central office of Net Impact, a nonprofit membership organization for individuals interested in using business skills to support social and environmental causes. Specifically, I managed Service Corps, a program that linked a pro-bono consulting team of Net Impact members with a nonprofit to complete a 3-month project of strategic significance to the nonprofit. I also developed and managed Mentor Matching, a program that linked aspiring and early stage social entrepreneurs in need of strategic support with business students and professionals willing to share their expertise. Finally, I updated and enhanced the website as needed.
