I led a project team seeking to discover and develop novel antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) as cancer therapies. Having worked in this field for twelve years, I have seen first-hand the huge potential that ADCs have to make a difference for patients. From my base in Emeryville, I collaborated with Novartis associates around the world, pulling together experts in diverse areas of biologics, chemistry, pharmacology, DMPK, toxicology, and translational medicine to bring important new therapeutic options to patients with greatest need.

I led a project team to identify new tumor antigens for antibody-based therapeutics, particularly the development of antibody-drug conjugates as cancer drugs. The research in my lab spanned the pre-clinical spectrum, from target discovery through in vivo efficacy, using recombinant DNA, protein biochemical, and cell biological methods. Additionally, I collaborated with Genentech's Antibody Engineering, Bioinformatics, Pathology, Translational Oncology, Safety Assessment, Pharmacokinetics, Clinical Science, and Commercial groups. During my eight years at Genentech, my lab made key contributions to our understanding of the parameters governing antibody-drug conjugate activity and safety and our assessment of tumor antigen targets.

I worked with a team of molecular biologists, biochemist, and medicinal chemists to evaluate GeneSoft's novel DNA-binding small molecules for regulating gene expression. I developed a microscopy screen to quantify the nuclear accumulation of these molecules in live cells, providing data that our chemists applied to improve the delivery of the molecules to the target DNA.

My studies focused on the quantitative analysis of post-endocytic protein sorting pathways, using fluorescence microscopy and biochemistry. In the course of this work, I characterized two novel membrane trafficking pathways.
