Bill Mariani is Highmark's Director of System Engineering and Operations. Bill is responsible for the operation and strategic direction of the enterprise infrastructure. He supports the company's critical technology and application platforms to include hardware and software systems, data networks, end user technology, data warehouse technology, customer call centers, EDI and technical assistance centers and the Highmark data center.

As CIO for Confluence Technologies, Mariani completely modernized environment to minimize downtime and enhance performance. Redesigned legacy ASP infrastructure to a fully redundant architecture; built security and disaster recovery framework; virtualized server infrastructure and consolidated data storage; managed SAS IT compliance; and introduced ITIL standards, increasing overall response time and delivery of services.

Mariani built an impressive record of achievements through a series of increasingly responsible positions for this manufacturer and provider of protective and decorative coatings, flat, fabricated and continuous-strand fiber glass products and services globally, comprised of 120+ manufacturing facilities and equity affiliates in more than 20 countries. Mariani oversaw the centralization, management and optimization of IT services, covering global help desk, hardware, software and telecommunications. Directed teams in evaluating needs and issues; defining strategies and best practices; and implementing enterprise technologies and services with strong ROI. Built a shared services model and rolled out a charge-back mechanism within individual businesses to reduce costs while aligning technology investments with organizational goals. Mariani held oversight for a large team (100+ people), budget greater than $30 million, and a multimillion dollar project portfolio. During his career with PPG, Mariani also had the responsibility for computer and network operations throughout Europe, and application development for Italy. During that period he guided his team in evaluating, recommending, deploying, and managing core systems, infrastructure, and applications across Data Centers in Europe.
