The Lakewood-West Colfax Business Improvement District (The BID) was formed by petition and special election in November of 2011. It is a special district along historic West Colfax in Lakewood that focuses on district investment, district identity, and economic development activities. In collaboration with 40 West Arts District, the West Colfax Community Association (WCCA), Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design (RMCAD) and a range of other groups, the Lakewood-West Colfax BID is working with the business and property owners along West Colfax to manifest the vision embodied in Lakewood's West Colfax 2040 Vision Plan.

The Creativity Lab of Colorado (the Lab) is a collection of collaborative capabilities, centered around creativity, innovation, and the entrepreneurial spirit. A public-private nonprofit project formed in the district and supported by Colorado Creative Industries, Rixky Mountain College of Art + Design (RMCAD) and other community partners, the Lab serves students and start-ups, emerging entrepreneurs and existing businesses, creatives and community leaders through three focus areas—each in its own way aimed at empowering the art of entrepreneurship. Metro West Housing Solutions is a non-profit property developer, manager, and human services provider. Metro West Housing Solutions' staff of 60 owns and manages apartments in Lakewood and Denver, provides Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers to eligible Lakewood residents, and facilitates a wide range of human services for clients. Metro West Housing Solutions serves as the Housing Authority for the City of Lakewood.

40 West Arts is a nonprofit organization that embraces the Arts and the energy and inspiration of creativity. 40 West Arts exists to enrich the community and enhance the creative, cultural and economic vitality of the West Colfax Corridor by developing and supporting community arts spaces and events and creative enterprises within the community. The organization works to fulfill its mission by operating 40 West Arts District, running 40 West Galleries, and supporting creative individuals and enterprises in the community through 40 West Projects. 40 West Arts is supported by individuals, artist and business members, sponsors and Colorado Creative Industries.
