Working directly with Operations teams, I perform system and process analysis, implementing one-stop toolsets and automation to support and streamline operations processes. Applying a veritable cornucopia of tools built during my tenure, I interface, cache, and consume data from various in-house systems to reduce task complexity and increase customer satisfaction, by improving the tools and capabilities of both front line customer and technical support teams. I leverage a broad and deep skillset in systems development and network engineering to perform complex analysis of incredibly disparate data sets, find common elements between them, and create tools that are fast, responsive, and informative, and ultimately solve problems faced by all customer facing staff at Limelight.

Working with product teams, network and system architects and engineers, operations teams, and even sales groups, I take diverse technical and product requirements, sometimes simply from overhearing a problem, and juggle complex, disparate data sets to produce useful tools to solve problems. Recent achievements include dynamic cycle SNMP pollers, network inventory and automation frameworks leveraging No-SQL database technologies such as Cassandra, Couchbase, and ElasticSearch. During my tenure, I've completed other projects including OSPF/BGP speaking real-time syslog analyzers, distributed CDN pre-cache and performance monitoring tools, cross-network latency matrices, application-custom service and availability probes, and passive heartbeat monitoring systems. I've implemented systems analogous to RANCID, capable of parsing Cisco and Foundry style configurations into data objects, to support audit, standardization, and change control processes. I've also designed rack and data center inventory systems, leveraging live switch and network data to recover/audit lost or inaccurate inventory data.

Using my diverse technical background, I design, develop and implement network management and automation frameworks to help monitor and manage a global network of routers, switches, and servers. Much of my time is spent solving unique problems in a large scale environment, deploying time-saving automation and custom solutions to better serve our customers in a competitive market place. I work directly with network engineers, security architects, system engineers and administrators, operations teams and even sales engineers to meld complex requirements and technologies together into functional, scalable toolsets to save our teams time, effort, energy.

Transitioned from previous role in security to an overall network management leadership role, supporting all aspects of enterprise network operations, including security, enterprise and customer support.

Building on my previous position with the company, I took on a leadership role in Security to focus on security challenges in a complex e-commerce platform environment. Implemented and deployed complex event analyzers to monitor and react to network events, identify threats, and assess vulnerabilities. Managed PCI requirements and audits, both internal and external, to insure privacy and security concerns were identified and addressed.

Responsible for tuning and managing a reasonably sized server farm, with an eye towards system and network security. Heavy Linux, Apache, and MySQL work, with a touch of R&D for flavor.Developed some crazy POE toys (see http://poe.perl.org/?POE_Cookbook/Dynamic_Loading), leading to a fast prototyping framework that got me into hot water with my manager more than once.

Developed troubleshooting tools, monitoring frameworks, and operations processes and procedures to transition support of deployed beta product devices to operations staff.

As part of a Network Management tools development team, I was directly responsible for developing SNMP toolsets, and administrating a variety of network infrastructure support services, including TACACS, Netcool, and myriad Solaris machines.

As the team's primary WAN nerd, this job bounced me around the North American continent, building and flying trade show networks, negotiating expedited and often ugly circuit turnups with carriers, sleeping on concrete switch facility floors, losing baggage, dealing with high pressure face-to-face customer issues, and some of the weirdest troubleshooting scenarios a guy could ask for.

NOC, NOC. Yeah, I love that joke, too. Somewhat run-of-the-mill Network Operations work, doing tier 1 T1/T3/Frame support, and tier 2 dialup support for a fast growing dialup ISP in the booming heydey of the Internet. This position exposed me to a wide variety of technology, platforms, and bad habits. Here, I began the long downhill slide into Network Management tools development, from shell script screen scraping to my first Perl script, and my first server killing race condition.
