It was during my active duty that I applied “Creative Problem Solving” to achieve successful innovations. Results were so well-known Navy-wide, I became a sought-after turn-around expert for at-risk programs and new start-ups, for all military branches, Joint-DOD programs and NASA. Since 1999, some clients’ actual Results: Corporations - tripled their market share & expanded tenfold. NonProfits - tangibly created societal change, from digital TVs to LGBTQ civil rights to UN programs. Four corporate clients achieved their 25 yr Vision in less than 1 year. County PWD – reduced backlogs 85-fold. National Medical research - “Accomplished more in 4 mos than the previous 4 yrs.” DOD acquisition programs – met tmilestones – early! Scores of Universities & Business Schools – Unleashed enhanced learning. Multi-B$ construction projects – Lessons learned, Partnerships formed, On-Time delivery. Complex, Town Hall meetings in 12 states addressed divisive issues with up to 400+ participants – “Focused. Everyone heard. Well-managed. Amazing outcomes!” But it's not just ‘me’. US Navy Commander, 1978 – 1999. (Ancient history - but - this is when I started facilitating)After serving 14 years aboard 7 ships and managing a shipyard & its 1400-man workforce, I served 7 years in Defense Acquisition Management, including the “Smart Ship Project”. In this high-visibility innovation project, I trained in "Creative Problem Solving.” With these new skills and Smart Ship’s innovative success accolades being very well-known, I was in-demand to support acquisition plus R&D programs, throughout DOD as well as Joint-Defense projects, NASA Space Shuttle program, the federal government’s Smart Card program, and the Vice President’s Reinvent Government project. I became a sought-after turn-around expert for at-risk programs & new start programs, spoke at innovation symposiums, and helped 5 programs earn their “Silver Hammer Award” - by going beyond ‘regular’ acquisition management with creative thinking and innovative change. I taught my own Creative Problem Solving for Program Managers, which was recognized as the most popular electives in the history of Defense Acquisition University. Retiring in 1999, I became the “Creative Facilitator”.
