While interning during the day with St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky as part of final undergraduate semester at Eastern Kentucky University, worked full time in 1976-77 at the hospital in the evenings as a Phlebotomist. Upon completing B.S. in Medical Technology in 1978, was a Medical Technologist at Ephraim McDowell Memorial Hospital in Danville, Kentucky. Then was recruited in 1981 by American Medical International as a Laboratory Services Manager initially at Brownsville Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas until 1983 and then at Plaza Park Hospital in Houston, Texas.
