After 42 years in the industry I decided to retire. I became an Electrical Engineer specializing mostly in RF due to my interest in Amateur Radio as a teen. My co-op/intern job in college was working on wireline telecom digital switches just as that industry was converting from mechanical stepping switches. Then I designed satellite, airborne and mobile communications equipment in the defense industry during the Reagan defense build up starting in the early 80's. I worked on early GPS receivers and 2-way radio too. In the 90's I designed space-based defense satellite hardware, then I helped developed commercial/consumer satellite phone technology, this lead to working on RF and power management circuitry in semiconductors for 1G and 2G cell phone, which evolved into Internet of Things products for 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G networks including some WiFi and Bluetooth. I've been part of bringing to the world nearly every RF and wireless technology of the last 4 decades in design, validation, applications engineering and managerial roles. I've been part of defense electronics, satellite, cellular, IoT and the transition to fabless semiconductor companies and contract fabs. I've been part of semiconductor sizes shrinking by many orders of magnitude. And twice I've worked for the biggest and best company in the industry! Now that I'm retired, my plan is to stay retired. And already I'm busier than I was when I was working.
