About Dr. William Sheridan, Mb Bs, Fracp, Facp

As the Chief Development Officer at BioCryst, I am a seasoned biotechnology professional with a focus on driving the growth and success of our portfolio of investigational drugs for rare diseases, with the goals of meeting real medical needs and optimizing corporate value.BioCryst’s structure-guided approach to drug design uses an iterative process to increase selectivity and enable efficient, rapid drug development. We concentrate on developing drugs for rare diseases in which patient needs are still largely unmet. BioCryst discovered and is developing BCX10013, a novel, oral, potent and selective small molecule Factor D inhibitor that could offer significant therapeutic advances for patients with complement-mediated diseases. At BioCryst, our team of Owners has successfully developed the first oral plasma kallikrein inhibitor, Oraldeyo (berotralstat), indicated for prophylaxis to prevent attacks of hereditary angioedema (HAE) in adults and pediatric patients 12 years and older. Prior to joining BioCryst, I held a 14-year tenure at Amgen, where I led or supervised several preclinical and clinical development phase product development teams, and later organized and led the company’s Medical Affairs functions in the US and Europe, making significant contributions to the successful launch of many innovative new drugs, including Aranesp®, Enbrel®, Kineret®, Neulasta®, and Sensipar®, organized the Global Health Economics and Outcomes Research function. I earned a MB BS degree (MD equivalent) at the University of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. I’m a board-certified Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, with a subspecialty in medical oncology, and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
