I mainly work on PhD dissertations and academic journal articles for Scribendi, covering every imaginable subject area from geology to blockchain networks to the Chinese government's sitcom-censoring practices. Most of the authors I work with are not native English speakers. Seeing the improvements in many of my repeat clients' written English is very satisfying.

I copyedit and proofread the Children's books section of Kirkus Reviews magazine, plus I edit fiction and nonfiction of all genres for Kirkus Editorial, often for Amazon Publishing.

As with Scribendi, I edited a variety of materials for Cambridge Proofreading from clients around the world. Cambridge clients often request British English, which was good practice for me.

My main job at Berkshire was to make sure that the company's many books and other materials were as factual, interesting, consistent, and jargon-free as they could possibly be. I was the house editor for the 10-volume, 1.5-million-word Berkshire Encyclopedia of Sustainability, among other works both large and small. Berkshire has extremely high standards and was a great place to work; I'm grateful that I was able to hone my skills as an editor there.

Portland, Maine Area

The now-defunct Casco Bay Weekly was my first foray into the publishing world. I started as an intern and soon became the listings editor, responsible for writing and organizing the listings of upcoming events in the Portland area. It was a great job while it lasted; unfortunately, the CBW went out of business in November of 2001.
