The National Emergency Medical Services Memorial Foundation was established on July 6th, 2007. It is a charitable organization with 501 c3 IRS status pending. The sole purpose of this foundation is, as its name implies, to design, build and maintain a permanent EMS memorial in Washington DC or its environs. NEMSMF was spearheaded by dedicated EMS providers from Boston, New York, Pittsburgh, Delaware, Cleveland & Detroit. Each of these locations could provide a suitable memorial and would be proud to do so. It was understood by all however, that the prestige of the Nation’s capital make it the most appropriate home for the National Memorial. Since its inception, the Foundation has grown exponentially and now enjoys personal and corporate support from coast to coast.While public safety officers from law enforcement and the fire service have been recognized for their sacrifice with national memorials, the men and women of EMS have gone without recognition for too long. It is our mandate to finally give these silent heroes a fitting memorial and their loved ones, co-workers, and counterpart’s, a permanent place to remember those we have lost, “that others might live”.
