As a Ph.D. in Management specializing in Business Strategy and Entrepreneurship, my research, teaching, and consulting experience helps organizations achieve remarkable growth through creative business model innovation, enhanced customer acquisition and retention, and an embrace of the entrepreneurial mindset.For the past fifteen years I have studied how organizations exhibit and leverage an entrepreneurial orientation (EO) to achieve unprecedented growth, competitive advantage, and new value creation. I am a member of the Academy of Management, and help steward the latest advances in entrepreneurial theory as an editor of Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, as well as through my involvement on the editorial boards of the Journal of Management Studies, the Journal of Business Venturing, and the Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal.My research has been presented internationally and published within notable journals such as the Strategic Management Journal, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Research, and the Journal of Product Innovation Management among others.

Principal responsibilities include conducting research on entrepreneurial topics, teaching entrepreneurship within the undergraduate and graduate management curriculum, and serving as faculty liaison and director of research for the Center for Entrepreneurship within the Showker College of Business. As an educator I've introduced a hands-on, experiential approach to teaching entrepreneurship which requires students to start and run businesses which earn a minimum of $200 in sales profit among other goals. The merits of this approach were featured in a “Bright Lights” spotlight on faculty innovation within Madison Magazine and awarded the 2012 College of Business, Kenneth Bartee Endowed Teaching Innovation Award. In 2014, I was selected as a Dean's Impact Award recipient for my scholarly efforts and classroom innovation.Undergraduate courses taught at James Madison University include Entrepreneurship, Management of Technology and Innovation, and Web Venturing and Entrepreneurship. Graduate teaching was focused on Entrepreneurship and Venture Creation.

The goal of the research was to determine what steps are necessary to conclude that a given decision aid significantly improves a commanders decision-making effectiveness while avoiding the adverse unintended consequence of limiting his or her understanding of the situation (e.g., strategic blindspots, overconfidence in a limited set of potential courses of action, lack of adequate consideration of adversarial responses or long term effects, etc.).
