About Billy Brotton

An ambitious and community focused Sport Development professional and Elite Youth football coach who graduated from Edinburgh Napier University with a first class honours degree in Sport and Exercise Science. I possess robust leadership and communications skills and have a proven track record of working successfully with key partners, governing bodies and senior management. My principal aim is to adopt and achieve challenging targets and work towards creating an inclusive and vibrant community and club based sports programme. At present I am Multi Sport Development Officer for Falkirk Community Trust. My recent focus has been to progress the wider gymnastics, netball , tennis and football programmes whilst playing a supporting role in the development of preschool activity, athletics , basketball and badminton . I currently oversee all employment to the team and train, support, develop and manage daily a team of over 60 members of staff , including sports coaches , sports coordinators and volunteers. This role also involves a leading role in the development of and management of partnerships agreements with local sports clubs and more recently facility development with a leading role in the creation and delivery of a first class gymnastics specific training venue in Falkirk. My prior role was as a senior member of the Health and Well Being faculty at one of Scotland biggest secondary schools, Larbert High School in Falkirk. My role as Head of Sport included the daily management of the wide-ranging Community Sports Hub and Active School programme, 4 national governing bodied endorsed Schools of Sport and a £230,000 Community Cycling facility. In my period in the role Larbert High School where awarded Falkirk Sport School of the Year 3 times in a row, Scottish Sport School of the Year in 2014 and awarded a first ever Gold Standard School of Sport by sportscotland.I’m my spare time I am actively involved in football across the Central Scotland area. Currently I play, coach and referee.

This position included the strategic remit for the Community Sports Hub (Tryst Community Sport Club) and Larbert High Schools Active Schools programme. The role is unique in Scotland and was the first of its kind involving a sportscotland Community Sports Hub officer role.     The FVFA was established in July 2013 as a 3 year pilot project and represents the first elite regional football academy in Scotland. The FVFA encompassed a partnership between three clubs- Falkirk FC, Stenhousemuir FC and East Stirlingshire FC, the Scottish FA and Stirling University. The academy established itself as one of the leading youth development programmes in Scotland, offering talented young players the chance to progress onto the very highest level within the game. The Academy was established in partnership with the Scottish FA as part of the national performance strategy. FVFA are a 4 star ‘Elite’ level academy with age group teams at U11s-17s who participate within the ‘Elite’ tier (top 12 in Scotland) of Club Academy Scotland. Currently I am part of the U14s coaching team working with elite level youth footballers 3 times per week and on a Sunday match day. My main roles include:- Delivering challenging coaching sessions within the academy curriculum focusing on improving the physical, technical, tactical and mental skills of each youth player. - Leading on a match day including tactical and set piece preparation, oppositional analysis and individual player instructions.- Completing weekly training and match reviews by analysing individual and team performances.- Completing individual player assessment to be used for parent and player feedback.- Devise assessments on players and trialists. - Support the delivery of sports science and fitness testing.
