About Billy Decker

Personal Values StatementAs I work with college students, I consider what's important to the student and create an ordered list of priorities. Students today are accustom to a structured environment. This structured environment provides atmosphere that eases the transition from home to university life. As many universities are self-contained, they hold most activities on campus, and organizations and clubs are usually a large part of student life. This university environment creates a sense of community among students. Students also need to find the best academic program to support their goals, if a student does not feel a fit they will leave. We should take a few moments to find out what are their concerns and needs are so they can be successful. I look at what is possible with our current housing options and what we can do to move the department and university forward to meet the needs of our student population. In my experience working with college students as we start to blend academic, social and structured environments in our residential community into their college experience students do stay and succeed. When we are proactive and look at what we can offer. What we might want to add to meet the needs of our students? And look to actively engage them will place them on the road to continue to live, learn and grown in their own home and community.
