Began career as an Apprentice Motor Mechanic in October 1973.Upon qualification in 1978 worked a Motor Mechanic for 12 years on a variety of operational support duties associated with the day to day running of a Large Public Service vehicle fleet.Following a short career break my area of responsibility has been in the Driving,Training and Mentoring area of Public Transport.Having now secured a CPC in Road Passenger Transport management I have now had my Training Role expanded to cover 4 of the 6 Driver CPC modules.Since 2014,I have secured Road Safety Authority (RSA) approval to deliver the "Health & Safety for the Professional Driver" module of Driver CPC (3.3) which now results in my ability to deliver 5 of the 6 modules.In February 2016,I passed the final stage of the RSA's 3 part,Approved Driving Instructor process.This has significantly increased the scope of tasks which I can now accomplish within the Training Centre framework,including New Driver Induction,at both classroom and on-road levels in addition to delivering refresher and ongoing training to Drivers at all career stages.Have now successfully passed the Stage 2 ADI Driving Test in category C+E (Articulated Truck) which will increase my ADI capability to Classes B,C,C+E and D,allowing me to instruct across a broader range of potential drivers.

Following on from completing my Apprenticeship,I spent the next 12 years as a Mechanic,mainly on rotating cycle shift work.The duties entailed a full service support provision to a large mixed fleet of Buses (200+) including roadside assistance,electrical and electro mechanical fault-finding and post-accident recovery.The fleet was initially 100% Leyland Motors Limited products,both single and double deck chassis with a variety of bodywork from locally built CIE bodies to Unique Dublin built CIE/Metsec Bodies on the sizeable Atlantean fleet.Later innovations included working on the DAF engined Atlantean PDR1 conversions which became a mainstay of the Dublin fleet subsequent to the demise of Leyland as a manufacturer.The most challenging and in many ways rewarding period of my Bus Maintenance career was undoubtedly the Bombardier/General Automotive Corporation fleets ordered by CIE in the early 1980's.Designed by FFG in Hamburg,Germany,featuring the two-stroke V6 Detroit Diesel engine and Allison V730 Gearbox and running on Rockwell axles the Double Deck (KD) was by European Standards a unique product...and 35 years later it remains unchallenged in that position.The single-deck,by comparison,was a tad less unique,as it utilised well respected UK based Cummins Engine Co's L10 product mated to a somewhat more standard Voith D 851 transmission and Kirkstall axles.Plenty of variety there for sure !

Worked as part of multi-disciplinary team on variety of Main Base Check and associated ancilliary tasks.Most experience was gained on Boeing 737-200,300,400, family aircraft with Pratt& Whitney and latterly CFM powerplants.I also worked on B747-200 + 400's in both Aer Lingus and Virgin Atlantic Configurations.I also worked on the cabins of the Aer Lingus BAC 1-11 fleet in their last days with the Company.Most of my tasking was in the Air Con bay and included,access facilitation,component removal,tagging and recording of relevant units then subsequent refitting of overhauled/new components.Associated experience on B & C checks of Cabin strip-out and Passenger Service Unit removal as well as Galley and component removal and despatch for overhaul.
