1984: Ordained: Minister of the Gospel: Southern Baptist As a Minister of the Gospel, I've had the Privilege and Responsibility of Serving several Small to Moderately Large Churches. However, Hopeful Baptist Church~ Organized in 1815~ became a FIRST for me, that is, I became "The Preacher".... Proverbial, "Dream Come True"... Maybe? Perhaps better expressed as, "My Africa". What do I mean by "My Africa"? As a SBC Child of the 50's, both my Mother and I thought Jesus would "Call" me to Serve as a Missionary to Africa! While I never made it to Africa, Geographically Speaking, I found "My Africa" right here in the Augusta, Georgia Area... And I did not even "Have to Leave Home" to find The Real Mission Field The Lord Called Me To Serve... At Hopeful, Serving Bi-Vocationally, I had all the Normal Pastoral Duties-- but my Supportive Staff were only two (2)-- Count them, 2 Deacons, and "Voluntary" Support Staff: From Music Minister to Church Secretary/Treasurer in a Rural Georgia Setting... Wonderful Families. Wonderful Community. Serving Our Wonderful Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ. For me, it was truly "The Best of Times"... AND "The Worst of Times". Sadly, I had to resign from my "Little Church in the Big Wood" due to not feeling I could effectively Serve/Minster to my Church Family due to personal family needs combined with my "Work" as Mental Health Director at ASMP.
