My main motivations in my academic and professional careers have been to continuously grow and develop myself with new learning challenges, and to find a career for myself which is meaningful and impactful on a daily basis. I work in railway operations as a signaller, delivering a safe and timely railway for passengers and freight customers. I am passionate about safety in the workplace and on the operational railway, and positive relationships within workplaces, which is why I have taken on the role of RMT health and safety representative and workplace representative. I also care about education, and derived a lot of enjoyment and meaning from my former career as a science teacher. That's why I've now taken on the additional responsibility of Deputy Briefer, returning to a role training others. My academic background is in physics and I maintain a keen interest in developments in the field. In my spare time I volunteer for some causes I care about.
