I am an alumni of Denison University and am seeking opportunities to study various methods of environmental protection. I want to help and be involved in as many different aspects of environmental protection as I can. I believe that the challenges facing the environment are too large to address from a purely scientific standpoint. Science is effective for seeing the trees but it sometimes struggles to see the whole forest.This big picture approach to the environmental problem was the reason I chose to study philosophy, economics, and political science. I also focused intently on how all of these different areas affect the environment. Being able to see and communicate environmental problems through these lenses is what distinguishes me from other environmentally focused individuals.I also have hands on experience with empirical science. I studied abroad with SFS Australia, an intensive three month field study program. While there I took classes in rainforest management, socio-economic factors of the environment, and rainforest ecology. This culminated in a solo directed research in which I compared different water quality monitoring systems used in catchments in Far North Queensland, with the goal of designing a system for use in the Atherton Tablelands.
