Garrison Command Sergeant Major
Vicenza, Italy
Recently, I was accountable for the morale, welfare, safety, and quality of life of more than 16K soldiers, department of the army civilians, and family members spread across 10 different installations throughout Italy. By leveraging strong people leadership skills, I directed a team of 1100 personnel, comprising military, department of the army civilian, and host nation workforce. Moreover, supervising overall routine operations of all directorates, departments, and staff, comprising 33 military officers and enlisted, 497 army civilians, 354 non-appropriated fund workers, and 277 host nation professionals, responsible for exceptional services delivery to the Garrison. My role was to keep the unit and the commander informed of comprehensive knowledge of army operations, regulations, policies, and procedures through planning and execution of operations, training, and real-world contingencies. I have gained specialization in managing the formulation of the army-directed army barracks management strategies. More practically, I have been actively involved in guaranteeing the proper functioning of garrison operations centers' automated information support and database systems. While I acted as a lead advisor for the Garrison Commander, I implemented the quality-of-life measures while executing a budget of $155M+. I have provided vital support in managing the installation space management and soldier/family programs this required extensive coordination with all tenant units. This was required from me to strategize and execute all ceremonies conducted by the United States Army Garrison Italy (USAG). I was known for dealing with various matters – formal diplomatic customs, courtesies, and etiquette for distinguished visitors. This was my role to deliver operational excellence during programs, reduce service requirements, and raise community participation rates by cooperating with higher echelon leaders.
