Bill has 25+ years of experience in roles ranging from software engineer to architect to senior executive. He is currently VP of Product Engineering at Bluehost, responsible for Product Management, Product Design and Engineering. Throughout his career, he has led engineering transformations that were driven by the rapid growth of the business. Focus areas include Big Data technologies (data science, data engineering and machine learning), eCommerce, web services, b-to-b solutions, consumer facing web sites, and distributed architectures. His work has involved addressing legacy codebases, consolidating platforms, transitioning to modern architectures and designs—all while changing the engineering culture. Ancestry DNA is one example where he helped deliver a reliable, scalable, production product. Bill recruited a very capable engineering team, collaborated with the science team and key business leaders, and delivered incremental changes to the product while the fledgling business was being established. The team successfully launched a new business for Ancestry and grew the DNA database to 1M+ users. When Bill joined the Endurance Group, there was no dedicated engineering team responsible for supporting and enhancing EG’s hosting infrastructure. Not long after Bill started at Endurance, he established the Hosting Orchestration Team which designed the innovative architecture that supports today’s Managed WordPress product. He also upleveled the Engineering organization while collaborating with other Endurance engineering leaders to plan the evolution of the Bluehost codebase into the scalable platform of the future. Bill also designed the roles and job descriptions for the 40+ new hires in Bluehost that successfully joined from July through November 2020. Bill has held key leadership roles at Ultimate Software (now the Ultimate-Kronos Group) and Ancestry.com. He has startup experience as a software engineer. Bill lives, works, and plays in Salt Lake City.

In order to scale the processing, the team created an innovative pipeline using HBase and Hadoop. This is a collaborative effort between our science and engineering teams. Current DNA pool size is 120K and growing.Commerce Services• All orders, free trials, and renewals are processed by these service teams. Services include user authentication, properties, subscription, and segmentation information. Key initiatives include simplifying and scaling legacy services (strangle and replace).
