Billy J. Hensley, Ph.D., is president and CEO of the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE). Since his appointment in 2018, Hensley has led NEFE through the development and execution of its first strategic plan, sharpening the organization’s mission, vision and core values, while cultivating broader transparency and effectiveness. He is charging the organization to Redefine Financial Education through more focused philanthropy, research and collaboration. This is illustrated by the conception of the Financial Well-Being Framework, a model for better accountability in the financial capability field. Under Hensley’s leadership, the following key accomplishments are noted: -Named nation's Best Financial Nonprofit for 2022 by Bankrate;-Received the 2021 “Setting the Standard” Award from the Association for Financial Counseling & Planning Education for distinction in best practices, diversity and inclusion;-Expanded national consumer polling and research, including averaging 209 media mentions per month; -Participated in an international documentary on women and money ($avvy); -Increased social media engagement 81%, impressions 78%;-Increased reach of Financial Education Evaluation Toolkit 38%;-Endowment grew from $174MM (01/2019) to $205MM (01/2022);-Founded national financial education leadership consortium; -Launched policy and advocacy initiative to champion financial education guarantee for all K-12 students; -Redesigned all branding; -Hosted national policy convenings and subsequent podcast series; -Expanded philanthropic reach and increased funding to recognize research excellence as well as increased support for organizations providing direct financial well-being services; and-Research agenda reached 1,400+ peer-reviewed cumulative citations, including one study ranked in the all-time top 5 percent of the Social Science Research Index.

Prior to becoming CEO, Hensley led NEFE grants, research, and consumer and collegiate educational initiatives, including program development and management of financial education programs that engaged over 1 million learners per year. Hensley directed NEFE’s philanthropic and innovative thinking initiatives, including a transformation of NEFE’s grant-making strategies.Senior Director of Education, November 2015 to July 2018Director of Education, May 2010 to November 2015A few key responsibilities were:• Led the education initiatives, including program development, setting benchmark objectives, and evaluating outcomes for research and online education programs that engaged 1.26 million unique users per year;• Initiated and built strategic partnerships with other funders, higher education institutions, and top-level researchers;• Oversaw a national financial literacy teacher training initiative, including raising financial support for pilot implementation and conducting three-year research study on initiative’s impact on confidence, practice, and behavior of 700 educators;• Designed and hosted national colloquia, forums, and think tanks on financial literacy topics;• Spoke at numerous national and international conferences; and• Participated on several national coalitions and work-groups that advanced the nation’s financial capability, including providing evaluation and curriculum support to the President’s Advisory Council on Financial Capability.

I taught ELFH 412 "Coaching and Talent Management" online in the Department of Leadership, Foundations & Human Resource Education at the College of Education and Human Development.

• Assisted in the financial acquisition, management and organization of a multi-university, grant-funded initiative (Southwest Ohio Secondary Teaching Academy) that recruited underrepresented urban secondary high school students to STEM teaching disciplines;• Worked on the development and organization of the University of Cincinnati’s campus-wide reaccreditation for the Higher Learning Commission, of which the CECH Dean was Chair; • Assisted with organization and facilitation of the University’s Institutional Review Board Taskforce that examined roles and responsibilities of investigators within the Academy; • Worked with the grant officer and faculty to help prepare grant applications; • Served as assistant to the CECH Faculty Senate; • Adjunct Instructor (Human Development and PRFS);• Served as editor of Educator, the annual magazine of the College of Education, Criminal Justice and Human Services; and• Supported various college initiatives as they related to CECH goals.

• Assisted with fundraising, program implementation, and overall organization of Ohio’s statewide college access network (OCAN);• Designed and implemented a professional development & technical assistance plan for Ohio’s urban and rural college access programs (OCAN); • Part of team that secured the state GEAR-UP grant, totaling $22,000,000; • Managed the philanthropic support and the day to day operations of statewide adult college access initiative: Ohio Bridges to Opportunity Initiative (KWF); • Designed statewide technical assistance plan for three-year workforce development education grant awarded from the Ford Foundation (KWF); • Hired, trained, and managed twelve coaching associates to deliver technical assistance to statewide grant programs (KWF); and• Participated on numerous statewide and governmental committees as relevant to College & Career Access goals (KWF).
