In the role I coordinated, developed and delivered the "Children’s Views" service which is a partner in the national service "My Rights, My Say" This included direct work with children and professionals, service evaluation and promotional comms. The Children’s Views service works with children aged 12-15 who have an additional support need (ASN) to have their views heard in decisions that impact on their education. The service also works with all professionals, who support children with an ASN, to collaboratively build capacity, skills and knowledge related to listening, learning and knowledge in line with article 12 of the UNCRC.

I worked as a coach and mentor for Autistic people over the age of 18 and parents of Autistic people. The Affinity service was a user initiated, time scaled and focused support that worked with what people identified that they needed and provided listening/talking support to achieve goals. A professional team of associates delivered fully evaluated online support for those who were not receiving any service "interventions". This allowed us to respond quickly to requests and make a difference, where that difference was required and agreed, in real time.

I was responsible for ensuring that service improvement is beneficiary led where the unique experiences of under supported families was at the heart of all delivery. I supported and informed the drive to change outcomes based systems where the voices of those receiving support were embedded and contributed towards strengthening families. Lead on #JunX10n Services where we provide personalised programmes designed to lower anxiety and build confidence & skills for our neurodiverse young people & adults' futures.This involved managing a small staff team and working in a fully person centred way utilising visual techniques which allowed families, and supported individuals, to design a path towards their aspirations. This often involved positive risk taking where the aim was always to give voice to the supported person, provide positive social experiences and offer the capacity to embrace their identity as a motivational driver rather than a psychological brick in a perceived pool of life.

The service aimed to empower young people to identify goals and ambitions for their future by improving their understanding of their own strengths and wellbeing needs and gain opportunities to engage in activities that could lead to increased community engagement, further education opportunities, or employment.

Codesign, develop and deliver a care inspectorate monitored service (#JunX10n) that provided a mechanism for Neurodiverse young people and adults to generate hope in a re-imagined future. The service was born from the frustrations and unmet needs of participatory gathered experience of transition. Skills development involved reframing of experience that generated hope via listening and transformed into an innovative service that filled a gap in neurodiverse/neurotypical experience of the world. We listened, designed and created a safe space that was the rebooting of "skills development."

Design, develop and implement transition programmes for school leavers with complex needs (which were known publicly as pupils in Scotland's National School for the deaf.. A GGASS) Participatory and person centred methods were largely debunked at this time but gave fuel to system change where those voices would drive improvements. My role shifted quickly as listening to the experience of families and young people was key to the development of the Trust and its charitable purpose.

Futures Dumfries & Galloway West & Central

Managed a small multi-disciplinary team delivering a specialized service within social care. Service provided targeted educational interventions and programmes to 11-17 year olds who experienced significant barriers to accessing traditional routes through education. Service users had a range of social, emotional and behavioural difficulties the majority of whom were Looked After by the local authority.

Aberlour Futures Dumfries

Worked across Dumfries and Galloway (100 miles) assisting the service managers to deliver high quality educational services to children and young people. In this role I also worked 1- 1 with service users and held a supervisory load to 8 staff.

Responsible for the learning and development needs of around 300 staff from all of Aberlour’s South of Scotland Services. Assessed learning and development needs in consultation with service managers, planned and budgeted L&D programmes for the year ahead and coordinated, built and delivered training courses to social care professionals.
