About Billy Parrish
In 1981 I became one of thirty original thirty Main Street® Managers in America. Main Street® redefined the strategy and structure for downtown revitalization, and for 37 years Main Street® has provided the foundation for successful downtown programs across the U.S. Over the ensuing years, I served as Director of the National Main Street Center, as the principal executive for a national educational foundation, as the COO of the nation's largest statewide historic preservation organization, as the CEO of a 2,000 unit housing development nonprofit, and for almost a decade ran the downtown development programs for the State of Georgia. Now I am again working directly with communities to renew their downtown and in town neighborhoods, focusing on the people and programs that are bringing new life to America's cities and towns. I have assisted public and private sector clients in the Georgia cities of Augusta, Brunswick, Columbus, Covington, Dahlonega, Dublin, Dunwoody, Eatonton, Greensboro, Macon, Madison, Powder Springs, Sugar Hill, Toccoa and West Point, as well as provided advanced training for the Georgia Municipal Association, the Georgia Cities Foundation, and the Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina Main Street Programs. I have also consulted with a greenspace organization, The Sandy Springs Conservancy, and assisted a Columbus, GA neighborhood organization, Midtown, Inc., in developing its strategic priorities. At the 2013 Georgia Downtown Conference, I delivered the closing address, "Where Main Street Meets Market Demand," and developed, with Kirby Glaze, The New Community Initiated Development Approach©, an in depth real estate development training and workshop that focuses on the growing market for small city living. My consulting practice emphasizes local capacity-building through training and facilitation, and the development of implementation strategies for catalyst real estate projects that strengthen the downtown and in town core.
Listed skills include Community Outreach, Nonprofits, Grants, Economic Development, and 46 others.
