In my role I act as the main contact point for designated escalator suppliers ensuring that the correct parts are purchased and delivered against the requested time frame. Maintenance business being hectic at times, my role requires rapid responsivenss and control over suppliers as well as close collaboration with different units within GSS.

My main responsibilities included the procurement of mechanic components, inventory management and supplier management. Besides the operative role I took part in two product ramp-ups and projects. One of my main project was ESI (Early Supplier Involvement), in which the aim was to improve designs and find solutions by involving the supplier already in the concept phase.

The topic of my thesis investigated Finnish expatriates intercultural adjustment challenges in China. International mobility being a vital part of ABB's knowledge transfer strategies, the object was to develop and improve pre-departure cross-cultural training methods that would better facilitate Finnish expatriates adjustment processes in China. I was in charge of coordinating inbound pre-production logistics and ensuring continuous stock management. Working at the early stages of the supply chain familiarized me me with various pre-production related processes such as invetory planning and forecasting. Also first introduction to SAP R/3, which has proven to be essential skill later on in my career.

My designated responsibilities included market research / analysis, partner search, and other administrative tasks such as translation related duties. My time in China was very rewarding as I developed a high interest and knowledge of its opportunities, the way Chinese do business, and the challenges involved when operating in culturally diverse markets.
