Research Fellow
• Develop breast imaging modality by combining functional diffuse optical tomography (DOT) with conventional structural 2D mammogram and validate concept in a 34-sample clinical trial;• Innovate tissue segmentation algorithm to generate anatomical prior to guide image reconstruction.

Research Assistant
• Successfully implemented in-house prototype engineering of two generations of NIR Raman systems that adopted sophisticated human factor engineering including a unique human-machine interface that enables real-time pressure and contact area monitoring for continuous noninvasive medical applications.• Conducted thorough and systematic in vitro investigation on NIR fluorescence and photobleaching characteristics of various tissue constituents, such as collagen, melanin, hemoglobin, albumin, antioxidants, porphyrins and advance glycation endproducts (AGEs), using Raman, UV-Vis, steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence, DLS, etc.• Utilized Raman and fluorescence spectroscopy in characterizing biochemical changes during glial scar formation 4-days, 2-weeks and 4-weeks post traumatic spinal cord injury in a rat model and classification analysis based on hallmark peaks of structural proteins and proteoglycans demonstrated convincing results.• In charge of in-house optical system alignment, calibration, trouble shooting, CCD performance evaluation, and new user training.• Performed on daily basis spectral data processing, analysis, and interpretation, including dark current correction, instrument function correction, fluorescence background suppressing, data smoothing, and SNV, using MATLAB, GRAMS, OriginPro, and OEM software.• Documented and maintained voluminous data, reported scientific results, published 4 peer-reviewed papers and 4 conference proceeding papers, and presented research on 6 prestigious international conferences (oral presentations on SPIE Photonics West 2010 & 2012, posters on ICORS 2010, OSA, etc) and various institutional seminars.
